Why won’t HEIC photos from my iPhone open everywhere?

HEIC is Apple’s default photo format since iOS 11, but many apps, websites and older devices only accept JPG or PNG. Converting to JPG makes the photo open and upload everywhere.

Why does AVIF sometimes save as PNG instead?

AVIF encoding is currently only supported by Chrome. On Firefox or Safari the converter automatically falls back to PNG so you still get a usable file — the result is clearly labeled.
